Han Solo film wraps shooting; Ron Howard reveals title

As part of Disney’s ongoing plan to release some sort of Star Wars film every year up until 2020, Lucasfilm has been filming a standalone Han Solo prequel film since the start of 2017. The film was scheduled to wrap in the summer but after the directors were fired, Disney deemed most of the footage unusable and brought in Academy Award-winning director Ron Howard to fill their spot and refilm a significant portion of the movie.

After months of endless reshoots and maybe even brand new scenes, Ron Howard announced via Twitter today that the film is done shooting and that they’re off to the editing bay to finish the film for 2018. Howard also revealed the long-awaited title which is simply… “Solo: A Star Wars Story”. I really don’t know what else we were expecting so that’s fine, I guess.

It still remains unclear if Disney is aiming to release this movie in May 2018 or if they’re going to push it into the traditional December spot that Star Wars has held for three years in a row and will continue to hold when J.J. Abrams release Episode IX in December 2019. Howard simply noted that the movie will release in 2018 but didn’t give a time frame.

For now, Solo: A Star Wars Story is scheduled for release on May 25th, 2018. If you need something to tide you over until then, Star Wars: The Last Jedi will drop this year on December 15th, 2017.
