Former directors of the Han Solo prequel were reportedly fired due to their zanier take on the character.
It was recently reported that the directors of the upcoming Han Solo prequel had been fired from the project entirely due to some "creative differences". The shake-up led to veteran filmmaker, Ron Howard, taking the helm for the remainder of production, along with a lengthy series of reshoots. Since the news dropped, many have been wondering what could have gone so wrong that the studio felt an entire overhaul was necessary.
Sources close to the project claim to have seen raw footage of some completed scenes and noticed the performances and writing were going in such an odd direction that it would've jeopardized the entire film. Apparently, Lord and Miller were shying too far from the initial concept and tried to force young Solo into more of a "comic relief" role, even described to be reminiscent of Jim Carrey as Ace Ventura.
As it turns out, the biggest influence in getting the directing pair kicked off the project was Alden Ehrenreich, Han Solo himself. After completing most of production and recognizing that the character was not being treated fairly, he supposedly made his feelings known, until it got around to Lucasfilm president, Kathleen Kennedy. After looking over the dailies, the decision was made to remove the directors and bring in Howard.
The production still has two months left, most of which will be dedicated to reshoots. What will this mean for the optimistic prequel? Check back for more upsdates on the production.
