The highly anticipated Han Solo spinoff film is going to feel more like a western, according to producer Kathleen Kennedy.
She decided to give an update on Walt Disney and Lucasfilm’s vision for the intergalactic smuggler’s early adventures, and it sounds right up Solo’s alley.
“This moves closer to a heist or western type feel,” says Kennedy. “We’ve talked about [Frederic] Remington and those primary colors that are used in his paintings defining the look and feel of the film.”
A western or heist feel to a Han Solo film feels like a natural fit for his character. The film is said to take place between Episodes III and IV, and will be “dramatic, funny, and unexpected,” according to cinematographer Bradford Young. As for the Remington inspiration, take a look at one of his pieces below.
The still untitled Han Solo film is shaping up to be very interesting. We already know that Alden Ehrenreich will take on the mantle of everyone’s favorite smuggler, while Game of Thrones star Emilia Clarke was recently cast in an unknown role. Donald Glover will play Solo’s smooth talking friend, Lando Calrissian, and we can expect Chewbacca to play a key role in the film as well.
The Han Solo film is being directed by “The Lego Movie” directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller, and is slated for a May 28, 2018 release.
