Harebrained Schemes to Kickstart Battletech strategy game

Jordan Weisman has been teasing a return to one of his favorite universes for a while. Today on the Harebrained Schemes site, the gang behind the return of Shadowrun announced Battletech and its giant robots are primed for a comeback. Weisman, the creator of Battletech and MechWarrior, will ask fans for their Kickstarter support starting in Fall 2015.

He promises an "open-ended Mercenaries style campaign," and this sounds like a strategy buff's dream. Giant robots and tough tactical decisions have always gone well together. Weisman is certainly a creator we trust to deliver here.

Harebrained is fresh off its revival of the beloved Shadowrun franchise, using Kickstarter to bring that about as well. Shadowrun: Hong Kong had a funding base before arriving on Kickstarter, so supporters were putting on finishing touches rather than financing the entire project. I wouldn't be surprised to see Harebrained using a similar model with Battletech.
