Harmonix pokes fun at Rock Band rumors

It's official, I f**king love Harmonix. In a series of tweets today, Harmonix spread word of their official PAX East 2015 party in the best way possible — poking fun at a rumor from earlier today regarding the possibility of a new Rock Band for Xbox One and PS4.

More tickets for the Harmonix PAX East party on 3/7 will go on sale tomorrow afternoon, according to a person familiar with the plan.

The party will be "totally sweet" and have "hella appetizers", said the person, who asked not to be named because the matter is private.

F**king brilliant. As the rumor goes, "a person familiar with" Harmonix's plan confirmed our suspicions of a new Rock Band when speaking to Bloomberg. The outlet claimed the source asked not to be named (of course) because the "matter is private."

In a more official response to the rumor, Harmonix told IGN:

“We’re excited by how enthusiastic our fans have been in regards to our most recent DLC releases, and we think it’s awesome that people are speculating about the future of the franchise!

While we still don’t have anything to announce, hundreds of thousands of unique users are still actively playing Rock Band games each month. This passion our fans have shown for Rock Band over the years suggests that rock truly hasn’t died, and we’ve always been clear that we’d love to return to the franchise when the time is right.”

Speculation of a new Rock Band first began last month when Harmonix sent out a survey asking which current-gen platform people own, and whether they would be "inclined" to pre-order a new Rock Band game. Last month also saw, for the first month in nearly two years, the arrival of three new tracks as downloadable content. This week, Harmonix again added two new tracks to the catalog; Weezer's "Back to the Shack" and Tenacious D's "Rize of the Fenix" were added to Rock Band's library. As observant gamers pointed out, the two songs share a similar theme in that they are about returning to form after a long absence.

When we suggested that Harmonix was hinting at a new Rock Band leading up to a possible reveal at PAX East next month (March 6-8) — which just so happens to be held in Harmonix's hometown of Boston — we were met with a pretty interesting response…

So what do you think, is a new Rock Band on the way?
