Earlier this year, Disney and Lucasfilm confirmed one of the Star Wars Anthology spin-off films will focus on a "young" Han Solo and how he "became the smuggler, thief, and scoundrel whom Luke Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi first encountered in the cantina on Mos Eisley."
Set for theatrical release on May 25, 2018, Disney has yet to cast the role of Han Solo, but one thing's for certain — whoever it is has some mighty big boots to fill. Han Solo has become one of the most iconic characters in cinematic history and following in the footsteps of legendary actor Harrison Ford is no easy task.
So how does one approach the role? Speaking to EW in a recent interview, Harrison Ford, Han Solo himself, offered some advice.
"I would say, 'Talk to your director. Watch the movies. And welcome aboard. Make it your own.'"
Of course, that last part will be a bit odd as just about everyone associates the name Han Solo with Harrison Ford. There's something about the idea of seeing another face as our beloved character that feels odd. And I, for one, was pretty upset when I found out plans for a Han Solo film that would feature someone other than Ford as the part. So how does Harrison Ford feel about it?
"I never though about it," he told EW. When pressed, Ford rattled off a number of other things he has on his mind that take priority over his thoughts on another Harrison Ford.
“I got other things to worry about. I got shoes at the cobbler that need to get picked up. I got to go get a bike fixed,” he said. “You know, I got a lot of things to think about.”
Well, there you have it. If Harrison Ford doesn't mind another actor playing the role of Han Solo, I guess I shouldn't either. God speed to whoever's chosen.
