Harrison Ford to get $2 million after breaking his leg filming Star Wars VII: The Force Awakens

Back in 2014, when Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens was in production Harrison Ford broke his leg. Now, about two years later the lawsuit has been settled.

It was when Ford was on his way to a dress rehearsal when a pneumatic door slammed down on him, causing a fracture in the tibia and fibula bones, left him pinned down on the floor by his pelvis and with a cut on his leg. Harrison Ford was not too happy about the incident and sued the Disney-owned company  Foodles Production Ltd. The British court levied the fine since Foodles Production Ltd. had repeatedly violated healthy and safety regulations.

Ford thought that the door wasn't live so he walked underneath during one of the dress rehearsals, and they had not been active during any of the other rehearsals either, said prosecutor Andrew Marshall. This time, however, a spotter signaled Ford's position to the door operator who in turn closed the door on Ford, causing the aforementioned injuries. The door supposedly slammed down with enough force to give it the weight of a small car "millimeters for his face".

Judge Francis Sheridan explained the reason behind levying the fine like this "The greatest failing of all on behalf of the company is a lack of communication. If only they had included Mr. Ford in all the discussions, he might have at least been alert to the dangers that he had to avoid".

The injury wasn't too severe since Harrison Ford was up and joking about how the door closed at light speed it a few months later, but a breach of work health and safety regulations is nothing to take lightly.
