Not even 24 hours after the big reveal that is Game of Thrones' season 6 premiere date, it has been reported that HBO is already in talks for seasons 7 and 8 of the dark fantasy drama.
Reports coming from Deadline state that HBO president Michael Lombardo is currently in renewal discussions with creators David Benioff and Dan Weiss for two more seasons; Lombardo recently confirmed this at the TCA (Television Critics Association).
Back in July, Lombardo said: “David and Dan are feeling there’s probably two more years after Season 6, that’s what we’re looking at right now. We hope that they would change their mind, but that’s how they are feeling now.”
George R.R. Martin, author of the Game of Thrones books, recently announced that his next book will not be finished by the time season 6 airs, which means the book and show might be slightly different. George R.R. Martin is a producer on the show though, so don’t expect too many differences.
Game of Thrones season 6 airs on April 24, 2016.
