When it comes to your preferred gaming console, you might get a little too over protected. The console wars predominantly take place between PlayStation and Xbox, however, PC sometimes manages to get in the mix as well.
But when it comes to the head of Xbox, Phil Spencer, he might be the most genuine game out there. His passion for gaming has been recently tested by his Twitter followers, but time and time again, he stands neutral in the console wars.
Just recently he was in an interview with GameSpot, where he was quoted "wishing the best for Sony" with their latest project, PlayStation VR. Here's what he had to say:
“I think VR is still right at the beginning. Taking that to a closed ecosystem today, I think to me is just too early,” he said. “It doesn’t mean that it doesn’t belong in console…I hope Sony has success with what they’re trying to do because I think it’s good for our industry as innovations like VR take off. But for me, and where we are with Xbox, my bet is putting the development tools in the hands of literally millions of people who can go on Windows and start building their own VR experiences is likely to lead to faster content innovation than a closed ecosystem would.“So we’re supporting Valve, we’re supporting Oculus, we want to make sure Windows 10 is a great place for those developers that want to build those ideas for what might make the killer app for VR.”
It's nice to see a major figurehead for Xbox wish the best fro their rival company, it shows us that in the end, we're just all gamers and we just want good games and new innovations.
However, PlayStation VR is still holding out on releasing a price point and release date for the product. The Vive and Rift are out in the open, with any luck, VR enthusiasts won’t have to wait much longer, hopefully, Sony drops the bomb on both its pricing and release date, despite GameStop's CEO Paul Raines hinting at a launch this fall.
According to a Sony representative, there are rumors that the headset itself will cost $299 and will not include the camera of PlayStation Move controllers. The representative went on to say that Sony is considering selling an additional VR kit for $129 that will include the camera, Move controllers and a game. Combined, the PlayStation VR and the additional kit with gear would cost $428.
