For all their visual splendor and wacky charm, retro platformers owe their fond memories to their superb soundtracks, marvelous combinations of unconventional instruments and cartoony rhythm.
YouTuber SquidPhysics has brought his musical talent to that unlikely marriage, resulting in stunningly accurate versions of the retro hits. Banjo-Kazooie has never sounded crisper than in his one-man rendition thanks to SquidPhysics' array of instruments spanning wind to percussion to string. No doubt thanks to its colorful ensemble, Squid describes the cover as the hardest he’s done yet.
Naughty Dog’s platforming progenitor Crash Bandicoot has been given the full treatment as well, complete with a delightful sax performance.
SquidPhysics has taken his skills to other media as well, including the original Halo, Game of Thrones and The Last of Us.
