As part of its Gamescom 2015 presentation, Blizzard today revealed, well, Reveal, another new Hearthstone mechanic which will be introduced in the upcoming Grand Tournament expansion.
Reveal has both players show a random minion from their deck. The minion that triggered the Reveal may then activate its effect based on the revealed minions. From the cards that were shown today, it seems having the higher cost minion wins out, which naturally supports heavier control decks. However, it’s possible that Reveal will also trigger off of lower cost minions.
Armored Warhorse, for example, will gain charge if the minion you reveal costs more than your opponent’s. Similarly, the Skeleton Knight, a new Legendary which blends Reveal with the existing Deathrattle mechanic, will return to your hand if your revealed minion is the beefier of the two.
Reveal’s announcement comes paired with a long-awaited update to Ranked play rewards. Beginning this month, players who reach high ranks will be rewarded with a special chest containing cards, that season’s card back and bonus crafting dust.
You’ll be able to view your current rank chest from your Quest log. The rewards start at rank 20 and will improve as you climb the competitive ladder. A rank 5 player, for instance, might receive something like this:
