Blizzard today released a preparatory patch for Hearthstone, just a few days ahead of the launch of the game’s Grand Tournament expansion.
Patch 3.0 adds the Tournament Grounds card back, which can be achieved by reaching rank 20 or higher in ranked play this month. New quests have also been added. The patch notes cite “one to win games in Tavern Brawl mode” as one addition, but it’s likely that The Grand Tournament’s Inspire and Joust mechanics will come into play as well. Tavern Brawl victories will also contribute to unlocking the Heroes of the Storm in-game mount from hereon.
After their gamescom 2015 reveal, the patch also introduces ranked chests, which reward players at the end of each season based on how high they were able to climb on the competitive ladder. In an earlier announcement, Blizzard clarified that there are several tiers to rank chests. Rewards start at rank 20 but grow better up through, at a minimum, rank 5. Legend rank chests are a safe, if unconfirmed bet. A rank 5 reward, for instance, might look something like this:
