Henry Cavill wants to play Geralt in Netflix’s The Witcher series

Henry Cavill has had a pretty good career over the last five years ranging from roles as Superman and the brutish CIA agent, August Walker, in Mission: Impossible – Fallout. During his downtime in his busy schedule, Cavill likes to play video games and he famously missed a call from director Zack Snyder who called to tell him he got the part of Superman but was playing World of Warcraft.

During an interview with IGN, the actor was asked what he’s been playing and he claimed he just replayed The Witcher 3.

“The Witcher 3. I just replayed all the way through,” said Cavill. “Love that game. Really good game.”

IGN then asked if he’d be interested in playing the role of Geralt in the upcoming TV series Netflix is developing. He sounded pretty eager to take on the brave and stoic warrior. “Absolutely. Yeah, that would be an amazing role.”

While Geralt is a bit older and sports longer flowing locks of white hair, Cavill could definitely probably nail the charm and imposing build of the fierce monster slayer. Not only is he a fan of the games but Cavill appreciates the books they’re based on.

“The books are amazing,” said Cavill. “The books are really, really good… The books I started reading, and they are well worth a read.”

If Henry Cavill is truly serious about taking on the role of Geralt, it could mean the end of his take on Superman.

There have been rumors of him being unhappy following the reception of the DC films and he’s in the process of negotiating his contract (which has made him unavailable to shoot a previously planned cameo for Shazam!). If Cavill does Geralt, he’ll likely need to dedicate a large portion of time to playing the character given the grand scale and length of Netflix series’. Of course, this is all pure speculation and nothing is official but it’s food for thought.

There’s no release date for Netflix’s The Witcher but a script for the pilot was completed earlier this year and they’re likely well into writing the rest of the season. Fingers crossed for a 2019 shoot date with a late 2019/early 2020 release.
