Her Story is a different take on the classic detective puzzler. With a plot that revolved around a missing persons case, the tension and doubt builds up in the same manner as True Detective and the game itself offered a unique and compelling format to traditional gameplay. It’s also an approach that resonated with gamers as it just surpassed the 100k mark of units sold in just over a month. The success of this weird little indie has its creator, Sam Barlow, considering what will come next.
"I want to make something that will delight people who loved Her Story, I really want to build on that," he revealed. "It won't be a direct sequel or the same mechanic, but I'm hoping to repeat the same ingredients: accessibility, respecting the players' imagination and intelligence, and the kinds of characters and stories you don't see so much in games."
It’s great seeing a left field approach hit a chord with audiences and experience success. It proves that the medium isn’t static and that the potential for new and intriguing deliveries for storytelling are more than possible and it’ll be doubly interesting to see what Barlow serves up next.
