This week, what is arguably the biggest game of 2017 will make its console debut exclusively on Xbox One. The PC game known as PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds puts 100 players on a large island and makes them all fight to the death with whatever resources they can find. Not only must they survive encounters with other players but they must be aware of the dangers that the environment throws at you. A "safe zone" that shrinks from time to time keeps players in a contained zone, if they move outside of it they will slowly die until they return inside the zone. Bombs will also periodically fall from the sky and wipe out anyone caught in the blast radius.
The game has sold over 20 million copies on Steam alone and is the most played game of 2017 on the platform, it has made a name for itself after gaining the attention of live streamers and online influencers. Despite still being in early access, the game was even up for a number awards at The Game Awards including Game of the Year.
Earlier this year, we got a look at the game's controls on Xbox One and they looked decent but some controls felt a bit weird and like they may be problematic. After experimenting, the team finally came up with a better control scheme that packs all the various commands and inputs available on PC onto a small controller. The controls reflect that of a traditional shooter with some sacrifices made to help fit other actions onto the controller. You can view the full control layout down below. PUBG Corp. will be monitoring player feedback so this layout is subject to change so if it doesn't work for you, make your voice heard via social media and other outlets.
The Xbox One port of PUBG was made internally by PUBG Corp. but Microsoft was keen on getting the game out ASAP without sacrificing quality so The Coalition (Gears of War 4) stepped in to help assist with the controls for Xbox One amongst other things.
PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds releases in Xbox Game Preview on December 12th for $29.99. The PC version will hit 1.0 later this month. The game will run at 30 FPS on Xbox One, it's currently unclear if the game will ever make its way to PS4.
