In the early 2000s, Halo was one of the biggest gaming IPs out there. It sold hundreds of millions of dollars worth of copies and managed to make stories on the national news whenever a new entry in the sci-fi FPS series launched. Although it is still a massive series, it's hard to say that it has the attention that it used to have.
What if things would've been different? What if it still had the cultural impact that it once did? What if the series expanded upon games and novels that only the most hardcore fans read? This almost happened. After the success of Halo 2, Microsoft realized they could turn the series into something much larger and reach more people so they turned to the other major entertainment industry: movies.
Microsoft knew they had something big on their hands and knew they could make a huge amount of cash off a movie both from box offices sales and an increase in game/console sales. The movie had a fully fleshed out script, various directors attached at different times (like Peter Jackson known for King Kong and The Lord of the Rings), but the movie ultimately fell through.
Many have wondered, what was the movie like? What was it about? Now we finally know. The entire script for the film has appeared online and it is absolutely excellent. The film was titled simply 'Halo' and is an adaptation of the original game Halo: Combat Evolved. It has all the iconic story beats and moments from the original game, with some additional story.
