Fans tuning into PlayStation Experience in hopes of hearing an official closed beta date for PlanetSide 2 on PS4 might be in for a bit of disappointment. Speaking to a Sony Online Entertainment representative, it didn't sound as though the company was ready to make an official announcement this weekend at the two-day PlayStation celebration, despite the speculation that arose from creative director Matt Higby's comments during the PlanetSide 2 anniversary livestream last month.
According to the representative, a beta build for the game hasn't even been submitted to Sony yet, but the plan is to have it submitted soon — December 17th was the date I was told. This is also in line with what SOE president John Smedley said last month.
Should everything go smoothly, we can expect a closed beta to become available around Christmas, or the end of December. Should the build not check out, then we're looking more at a closed beta sometime in January 2015.
Stay tuned this week, as we'll continue to provide coverage of PlanetSide 2 for PS4 from the PlayStation Experience show floor.
