Here’s the science behind Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue’s title

I still don't get it

The Kingdom Hearts game director, Tetsuya Nomura, sat down with Famitsu to talk about the upcoming addition to the Kingdom Hearts series. No, he didn't discuss Kingdom Hearts 3, he discusesed the newly announced Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue.

Technically speaking, the title is Kingdom Hearts HD II.8 Final Chapter Prologue, an odd title by most regards. The game brings a full-HD remastered Kingdom Hearts Dream Drop Distance to PlayStation 4, along with Kingdom Hearts 0.2 Birth by Sleep – A Fragmentary Passage and Kingdom Hearts χ [chi] Back Cover.

Nomura's interview focused on various aspects of the game, but there was one aspect that really stuck with us: Why the game's title is so… interesting. The reasoning that Nomura offered for the game's name really makes me wish no one ever asked, becuase now I'm even more confused.

Apparently, there's some sort of math involved in the title, as games without Sora or an χ stands for the number zero, so keep that in mind.

“This Kingdom Hearts Dream Drop Distance compilation follows the previously HD work 2.5…and is worthy as taking its place as 2.6,” said Nomura.  “Because Kingdom Hearts Birth By Sleep is 0.1, this is how the 0.2 came to be put in the latest Kingdom Hearts 0.2 Birth by Sleep.”

“Thus,” Nomura said, “the 2.8 number appears from 2.6 plus 0 plus 0.2.”

I hope you got that, if not, we can attempt to erase this memory.
