Xenoblade Chronicles 3D will be the first game exclusive to the New Nintendo 3DS, which means if you're planning on buying this portable version of one of the best RPGs on the Wii, you'll also have to upgrade your hardware. That's right, Xenoblade Chronicles 3D will not work on your current 3DS hardware.
Nintendo had to make sure that the game cases also reflect that exclusivity. In the picture above, you can see the shift of the white bar which. While it traditionally rests on the right side of the game case, the New Nintendo 3DS case moved the bar to the top. While I don't think that single shift will be enough for parents to realize that the game won't work on current 3DS hardware, but it's nice to see that Nintendo has at least thought about it.
Historically speaking, here is what the Nintendo DS cases look like. The white bar with the Nintendo DS logo was on the left, which is the most traditional layout for Nintendo game cases.
Worried that some parents might mistake 3DS games for DS games, they opted to shift the white bar to the right side of the case, and have the 3DS logo displayed prominently across.
Xenoblade Chronicles 3D will be releasing on April 10th, 2015.
