Here’s when the new Ghostbusters is hitting theaters

Yesterday, Sony Pictures announced a slew of dates for films releasing in 2016 and 2017. Included in that list is the release of Paul Feig's Ghostbusters reboot, starring a main cast of all-female ghostbusting crew.

While we've seen plenty of shots from the set since filming began last month, one thing has remained a mystery: a release date.

Sony originally had a target release date of July 22, 2016, but in the latest press release, Ghostbusters is now slated for a July 15, 2016 release, up one week. The release means Ghostbusters will now debut ahead of the upcoming Power Rangers film.

Feig's Ghostbusters will star Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Leslie Jones, and Kate McKinnon. While some may have a problem with an all-female crew, I am more concerned with the things that made the original so great: character and humor. I'll reserve judgment until I at least see a trailer, but early shots from the set at least show that Feig is committed to creating an authentic Ghostbusters look.
