Here’s when the next Star Wars: The Force Awakens trailer will drop

Star Wars fans eagerly await the next trailer for Episode VII: The Force Awakens

As expected, we didn't get a new trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens at San Diego Comic-Con this past weekend, but we did learn when we can expect the new one to drop. According to Screenrant, Lucasfilm doesn't plan to release a new trailer until Fall 2015.

Off the top of my head, I can't think of any big release this Fall that Disney could attach the trailer to, but it's worth noting that Disney's annual D23 Expo is being held in August. Technically, that's still Summer so we probably won't get a trailer; however, it's possible we could get something related to The Force Awakens. After all, the company just announced some pretty big plans for the Star Wars franchise in terms of games at D23. One would assume similar support for the franchise movies. Maybe some news regarding Star Wars Anthology: Rogue One?

To date, Lucasfilm has released two trailers for the highly anticipated Star Wars: The Force Awakens, but both previews have been heavier on the teasing side of things. We've yet to see a full blown trailer that provides context to the mysterious story, and with JJ Abrams at the helm I doubt we will. He tends to play his cards closer to the chest. And quite frankly, why would he want to reveal more? The vagueness of the two previous teaser trailers have generated tons of interest around the franchise which hasn't seen a new installment in its core film series since 2005. The mystery surrounding The Force Awakens is part of this massive hype machine, and fan intrigue is the fuel.

So at D23 I would expect something more along the lines of what Lucasfilm showed at San Diego Comic-Con over the weekend — a behind-the-scenes video that doesn't reveal much, but still keeps the fans intrigued.

As for the trailer debuting this Fall, well, your guess is as good as mine. I hope we at least get to see more of the original cast on screen. The last trailer was just a few glimpses of what appeared to be Luke's hand, R2D2, and a surprise ending with Han Solo and Chewbacca.
