I think we can all agree that last week's Iron Banner event in Destiny was the worst one yet. Matchmaking and weapon balancing aside, the biggest source of player frustration was the horrible rewards, or lack thereof. Whether it be duplicate drops or rewards too low for your current Light level, the Iron Banner sucked.
Turns out, it was all because of a "nasty bug" that Bungie recently discovered. Not only was this bug affecting Iron Banner, but the entire Crucible as well. As explained by design lead Lars Bakken:
"Last week, it was clear to us that you were frustrated by the Iron Banner reward drops, and rightly so! It turns out that, when we started digging into the issue, we uncovered a nasty bug that affected how Legendary drops happen throughout the Crucible, including Iron Banner."
Bakken assured Bungie working hard on a fix to ensure that the next Iron Banner works as intended, "and be even better than before."
"These changes will make your entire Crucible career more rewarding. Once the final details are locked, we’ll be sure to share them with you. Thanks for all the feedback, and may the Lords of Iron reward your future bravery."
Here's the thing, I appreciate Bungie admitting to the bug and acknowledging the fix. But what good is that fix to me now? How does it make up for the hours I've poured into the Crucible and received sh*t rewards? How about the Guardians who grinded to rank 5 Iron Banner reputation and received crap for it?
I'm all for bug fixing and tweaking systems based on live player feedback, but Bungie's habit of doing this after the fact doesn't help people who have already wasted their time. I hate to make demands, but if this is how it's going to be, Bungie needs to figure out a way to reward the Guardians who initially play their broken game modes rather than saying, "Well, thanks for the testing, next time it'll be better."
