Here’s your first look at Command and Conquer Remastered

The very first look at the remaster

Electronic Arts has shared the very first image for the highly-anticipated modernized Command and Conquer Remastered. It’s just a single art preview but it still marks the first time in many years that gamers get to see something of a more traditional Command and Conquer game.

Shared on the Command and Conquer Reddit, EA’s Jim Vessella posted the image of the new Construction Yard in the remaster. Despite looking sharp, we have to point out that the shared image is an art preview and not an in-game screenshot. But if we take into account that the original game is 24 years old, we’re expecting the fidelity of the game’s assets to achieve great fidelity.

What immediately springs to one’s mind after seeing the remastered Construction Yard, is how authentic the style adheres to the original Command and Conquer. This isn’t by accident as Vessella points out how important it is for the development team to stay true to the original. Both in terms of visuals and gameplay. Just the perfect design ideology for a remaster.

Now, if you’ve been reading our previous posts, our primary goal with the visual approach is to maintain the authenticity of the original in-game asset. It’s worth calling out that if there’s a conflict between the in-game asset, cinematic asset, or UI portrait, we’re always going to side with the in-game asset. That being said, if there are opportunities to pull in details from the cinematic footage to enhance an asset, we’ll do our best to incorporate those details.

Vessella also shared the great news of the developer’s reaching another important milestone by completing the first playable campaign mission. Work is going well on Command and Conquer Remastered and while not having a release date, we’re hoping to replay the cult strategy game in its modern incarnation soon ourselves.
