Today, quotes from both Norman Reedus and Guillermo del Toro all point towards Kojima Productions coming right out the gate with plans for new titles. A few months ago, Konami and Kojima were splitting up. Soon after, Kojima announced that Kojima Productions was going independent and being backed by Sony.
Now, Hideo Kojima has announced new details about his first project. Without giving away much, Kojima told Polygon that his first game will not be a VR experience like some had assumed.
“I was thinking in my first year out I would make something indie, something small, maybe a game or a movie. But after talking with friends, acquaintances and seeing what fans were saying, I was convinced I should work on a big game, so that possibility was gone.”
He also describes his relationship with Sony as respectful and trusting. With Metal Gear Solid and Silent Hills still technically considered property of Konami despite creative involvement in either series, then next Kojima title will most likely be a new, original creation. Kojima Productions was reformed as an independent studio in December 2015.
