Though upcoming PS4 exclusive Bloodborne shares many similarities with Demon's Souls and Dark Souls, game director Hidetaka Miyazaki has revealed that creating this new game on the PS4 has allowed FromSoftware to "really push the envelope" of game development.
"Creating Bloodborne as a completely new game on the new PlayStation 4 hardware has allowed us to really push the envelope in myriad ways," Miyazaki, who also served as director for the Souls games, said in a special message on the PlayStation Asia blog.
"That being said, in more ways than one, it also very much retains our distinct, signature style. As has been at the core of our development philosophy since Demon’s Souls, we make true games for people who love games," he said, adding that more info on the game will come soon.
At E3, I had the opportunity to sit in on a gameplay and while I haven't actually played Dark Souls, the core mechanics of Bloodborne seem to share a lot of the same philosophies — the biggest being challenging gameplay that involves precision timing on all of your actions (and rolling, of course). The demo was of an early build of the game — not even the UI was built out yet — so it's a little unclear exactly how FromSoftware is pushing the envelope with Bloodborne on PS4, but the core concepts are at least in place. Now it's time to see how FromSoft improves upon those.
