Historical RPG, ‘Expeditions: Viking’ is being delayed

Developer Logic Artists is aiming to create the most authentic Viking game yet with their upcoming tactical, turn-based RPG, Expeditions: Viking. In order to do that, however, they have decided to postpone the release date for the game into Q1 2017 but are going to be using that time to integrate some additional development plans.

Producer Ali Emek said:

"There are so many things we’d like to get just right with Viking. We’re confident with the game’s narrative and high level of player choice, but want to spend additional time on some of the more exciting and challenging elements of the game’s development."

So what exactly are those elements? The Expeditions series is known for its ability to challenge its players using the environment. The developers plan on expanding the system for crafting and laying traps which is found in Expeditions: Conquistador to incorporate more ways to manipulate the environment as well as introduce environmental hazards.

Hazards are objects that are either laying around the battlefield when an encounter begins or something laid down by the player or enemy units during combat. The idea is that this will add an additional layer of tactical strategy to movement and positioning across the game's grid-based battlefield.

Logic Artists' Creative Director Jonas Wæver said:

"We’re also populating the campaign maps with lots of random encounters and side quests to reward those players who love to explore with a variety of experiences they may not face if they exclusively follow the main story quests."

Expeditions: Viking is expected to launch on PC sometime in February 2017.
