Despite being released in 2016 and the fact that I don't recall ever seeing it receive a "game of the year" award, IO Interactive is releasing Hitman: Game of the Year Edition on November 7. This new updated version of Hitman will be IO's first release as a fully independent studio, after breaking away from SquareEnix earlier this year.
While Hitman may not have won an actual game of the year award, at least not from any major publication, the game was still really good. With the new GOTY edition, IO is adding a new campaign mission called, Patient Zero, which takes place over four missions and will task Agent 47 with eliminating a target that has been infected with a deadly virus. In addition to the new campaign missions, three new escalation contracts, new suits for Agent 47 and graphical improvements, like lighting enhancements and more are being included.
I was originally late to the game with Hitman, having only played through it earlier this year, you can read my review here, but with a new mission and improved mechanics, anyone who hasn't played it before, you owe it to yourself to try it now for $60. If you already own Hitman Season 1, you can upgrade digitally for $20 to receive all of the new content.
For those players who don't plan on upgrading, don't fret, IO is releasing an update for Hitman Season 1, which will include some new contracts and a redesigned UI, amongst other improvements.
