One Piece: Unlimited World Red is the latest entry to the Unlimited series that just launched on the Wii U, 3DS, PS3 and will release next week on the Vita.
I'm currently playing through it on the Wii U and 3DS, and much to my surprise, the 3DS version is a direct port of the Wii U version. I went into the game thinking it's one of those dumbed down handheld ports with shorter levels, linear gameplay and subpar visuals, but this game proved me wrong.
Much like Capcom's Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate, which was able to share save files across the Wii U and 3DS, and also provided the 3DS with the same exact gameplay as its console counterpart, I'm able to transfer my save file back and forth between the two systems for One Piece as well.
And surprisingly, I might be enjoying it on the 3DS more. Sure, the graphics aren't as gorgeous as they are on my HDTV, but the framerate is smooth as butter, and the lower screen is actually helpful since it displays the game's map at all times, a feature sorely missing from the Wii U version, even though it has a second screen.
I'll be sure to give my full verdict on both versions once I get through the game.
(Spoiler: It's pretty damn good)
