Homefront: The Revolution suffers major delay

Pushed back to 2016

Remember Homefront: The Revolution? First revealed in June 2014, the game was to be the newest entry in the franchise which Crytek had purchased from a bankrupt THQ. Shortly after Koch Media, together with its publishing label Deep Silver, acquired the Homefront brand and "all coherent assets" from Crytek with development taking place at the Nottingham-based Deep Silver Dambuster Studios, which was newly founded at the time.

Regardless of all the shift of property, Homefront: The Revolution was always on track to release sometime this year. We even saw the game at E3 2014 back in June, and it looked awesome. However, since then news surrounding the open-world, free-roaming first-person shooter has been vague, suggesting some sort of delay was imminent.

Turns out, Homefront: The Revolution has been pushed back to 2016 with no sort of specific window for release. The delay was revealed in a press release today that actually emphasized the official unveiling of Deep Silver Dambuster Studios, publisher Deep Silver's latest AAA in-house development team.

"Development on Homefront: The Revolution continues at full speed, with the game now scheduled for release on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Mac, as well as Windows and Linux PC in 2016," the press release reads.

"“We are excited that Deep SilverÂ’'s acquisition of the Homefront IP and assets from Crytek has allowed development of Homefront: The Revolution to continue with minimum disruption,” said Homefront: The Revolution game director Hasit Zala, who is also head of Deep Silver Dambuster Studios. "“The team here believes we are working on something truly special.”"

For those who missed the initial game announcement nine months ago, Homefront: The Revolution throws players into a near future dystopia. With catastrophic events having brought the United States to its knees, the Korean People's Army forces now impose a brutal military occupation. Philadelphia has become a police state, where surveillance drones and armored patrols rule with with totalitarian force. Of course, this is Homefront, which means the oppressed are now engaging in guerrilla warfare to ambush, infiltrate, and bring down the occupiers.
