It’s been a long time coming, but Ubisoft is finally getting ready to launch dedicated server support for their multiplayer melee fest, For Honor. A press release that was sent out earlier today confirmed a February 19th launch date for the dedicated servers for PC players and said that it would come “soon after” for fans on PS4 and Xbox One.
The dedicated servers are part of a massive update that will include the launch of Season 5: Age of Wolves. The move to dedicated servers was originally announced over the summer, and the developers conducted a test session back in December to ensure that they would run smoothly at launch.
Game Director Damien Kieken called the shift “a challenge, but a decisive step in improving the game experience of our players.”
At launch, For Honor quickly gained a reputation for having connectivity issues thanks to its P2P structure that relied on players having a stable connection; easily a variable that can change from match to match.
Ubisoft says that their initial focus for the launch of the dedicated servers will be on PVP modes and will “fully remove the session migrations as well as the NAT requirements while eliminating most of the resyncing.”
There is no current release date for the dedicated server support for console players, but that will comes once the developers are sure that everything is working correctly for the PC crowd. Hang tight; For Honor players, it won’t be much longer.
For Honor Season 5: Age of Wolves launches on February 15th.
