After a mixed launch, Guerilla Games has responded to player feedback who are bemoaning the technical state of the PC port of Horizon Zero Dawn. The developer is promising that they are going to address the many issues that sadly overshadowed the launch of the game.
Last Friday, Horizon Zero Dawn Complete Edition finally released for PC. The excellent former PS4 exclusive includes all DLC and was even priced at a slightly reduced price of $49.99. But what should have been a grand celebration for developer Guerilla Games ended up on a sour note due to the technical mark-up of the game.
As it stands, many PC users are reporting crashes and unstable performance. It bears noticing that not everyone has these issues but the numbers are higher than they should. Alongside those, users have also noticed that certain effects like Aloy’s hair physics don’t work correctly at framerates above 30 and that the immersive snow deformation effect is absent altogether from the PC version.
We have been monitoring all of our channels and are aware that some players have been experiencing crashes and other technical issues. Please know that we are investigating your reports as our highest priority.
A real shame, since the game itself, is a brilliant open-world action-adventure that shouldn’t be missed by any gamer. Its arrival on the PC is a major moment for Sony and marks a radical shift in ideology when it comes to multiplatform releases. The success of Horizon Zero Dawn’s PC version is likely going to have influence about future PlayStation exclusives coming to PC.
It’s a disappointing showing by the porting studio Virtuous and directly overshadows the great work of Guerilla Games who has been championed as one of the best studios in the business. Thankfully, the developer is acutely aware of the situation and has quickly released a statement saying that they are going to tackle the problems of the PC port.
