How FIFA 16 is innovating gameplay across the pitch

EA Sports has today revealed an all-new FIFA 16 trailer, showcasing a wide variety of different in-game innovations which include updated defensive and offensive tactics.

Many gamers have argued that this new FIFA title is looking very similar to the previous (after the reveal trailer at E3,) which isn’t exactly a huge complement to game developers EA. However, as seen in the trailer above, FIFA has seemingly made potentially ground breaking developments in defence, midfield and attack.

So, we’ll start with defense. The previous title, FIFA 15, made several tweaks to in-game defensive structure but there didn’t seem to be much variation in terms of defensive tactics. For example/ no matter how good at defending your team is, you would still fall victim to the deadly lofted pass, almost by default. Although, it would seem EA Sports are now adamant to give gamers a more diverse selection of playstyles.

New AI features will allow defenders to track and read the movements like never before, standing their ground and testing the offensive awareness of the opponent. Moving in a unit, much like a good defensive side like a Chelsea or Atletico Madrid, will allow players to better aware of the space on the pitch, thus improving the chances of a clean sheet.

Oh speaking of clean sheets, goalkeeper fundamentals have been worked on too, which is a welcome addition and should make it tougher to score.

Secondly, midfield play is set to face more developments. Last year's title included upgrades to through balls with all new animations, and gamers can expect much more of that this time around. Brand new interception awareness and animations should allow teams to have a more solid defense/midfield ground, breaking up play and making things difficult.

The trailer mentions "passing woiith purpose" as EA Sports intends to make the passing style and fluency a lot smoother this time around, and more realistic. Also, a change in the crossing dynamics should allow for more "moments of magic" when trying to penetrate the oposition's defensive line, whipping the ball around in a more objective manner.

This new crossing feature should allow strikers to penetrate the back line a lot more, with tactical awareness features allowing poachers to reap the rewards. However, it won't be all that easy. Defensive improvements have meant that strikers will have to work to break free from the oposition, putting more emphasis on tactical quality as oposed to pace, FINALLY.

As previously reported, the "No Touch" dribbling play will allow attackers to shift and ghost past defenders if performed correctly, much like Lionel Messi (as pictured above.)

So, we are looking forward to this all new FIFA 16 game, how about you? Feel free to drop your thoughts in the comment section below, or tweet us @GameZoneOnline.
