How to complete Destiny’s ‘Lost to Light’ for Black Spindle

A guide to farming Destiny's Exotic Sniper Rifle

Last week, it was discovered that Destiny: The Taken King's Black Spindle, a Year Two Exotic version of  Black Hammer, could drop if you meet certain requirements during the "Lost to Light" mission when it's set as the Daily Heroic. Well, that happens to be today, which means the highly-coveted weapon is up for grabs.

While there was some initial confusion as to how to get the Black Spindle to drop, that's now been solved. The guide below should help explain the process, which involves killing a lot of really challening enemies in not a lot of time.

  1. Run "Lost to Light" when it's set as the Daily Heroic Story. Note: The Black Spindle won't drop unless Lost to Light is the Daily Heroic, so if you don't complete it today, you'll have to wait for it to come into rotation again.
  2. The mission is fairly self-explanatory. Head to where you shattered Crota's crystal and defeat the Ogre. Note: The entire fireteam can not wipe, or it will cause the door at the end to shut.
  3. Towards the end of the mission, after opening up the two sealed doors, head down the hallway past the room with the third locked door. Ignore the relics and get to the lift that'll take you to the Ketch. Note: You should get a warning from your Ghost about a Fallen distress signal. If the door is shut and Ghost offers to scan it, you'll need to reset the mission and start again.
  4. A 10-minute countdown timer will start when you enter the first room. If you do not defeat Driksis and the adds in this time, you'll get booted back to Orbit and will need to repeat the Daily Heroic Strike.
  5. Try to arrive at Driksis' room with around 6-7 minutes remaining.
  6. You'll want to burn the boss as quickly as possible, but make sure that at least one member of your fireteam is destroying the Taken Blights in order to limit the number of adds.
  7. Try not to stand close together, as the boss' projectiles can blind the entire team.
  8. You'll want the boss dead by around the 1-minute mark to ensure you have time to clean up the remaining enemy. Note: Enemies will stop spawning once the boss is dead, which is why you'll want burn him quickly.
  9. If you've done everything correctly, you'll receive the Black Spindle upon completing the mission.

Unfortunately, Bungie has admitted there is a bug with the Black Spindle, resulting in the weapon dropping with 310 Attack — 20 points higher than intended. Although today's patch didn't address this, Bungie has said they will be adjusting the Black Spindle to match the attack rating for other Year Two Exotics in an upcoming patch. Until then, though, enjoy your hard-earned weapon.
