343 Industries' Frank O'Connor, Halo franchise director, has provided us with a wonky but useful tip that can help determine if you will successfully find a match in Halo: The Master Chief Collection's multiplayer. Although it's not a fix (343 Industries continues to work on the issues), it is something can actually improve your experience.
Basically, when you are in the matchmaking screen, looking for players, make sure that the column on the right is headed by the string, "In Lobby", with gray boxes beneath, until a whole game is found. O'Connor warns that if you see this in any other state, or you don't see the "In Lobby," then you will not successfully join a game. In that case, just back out to the main menu and try again.
"Awkward? Yes. Sorry! But simple and a tiny band aid while we work on the bigger medicine. More news as we fix more stuff," O'Connor said.
To help better understand, O'Connor shared some screenshots of what "Good" and "Bad" matchmaking looks like. It should be noted that successful match times can take anywhere from 15 seconds to four minutes, though 343 Industries admits four minutes is "too long to wait for a match."
Yesterday, The Master Chief executive producer Dan Ayoub issued a statement addressing the problems players are experiencing, while also apologizing and promising fixes are on the way. While 343 Industries continues to release updates, they have also attempted to alleviate the problems by temporarily removing four multiplayer playlists.
