HTC's chairwoman, Cher Wang, announced that the recently revealed Vive VR headset was being developed with a Half-Life game in mind. In fact, she was quoted saying HTC was "co-operating with Half-Life."
That comment came as a shock to Valve for a major reason: Valve isn't working on a virtual reality Half-Life game.
Woops.
Since that comment was made by Wang and Valve's reaffirmation that they were not doing any such thing, Wang has backtracked and apologized:
"I would like to apologise for any confusion caused when I referred to individual games titles," she said."In response to a question on specific games, I misspoke when I referred to our working together with Valve on a particular game, when instead I meant our collaboration with Valve on developing next-generation virtual reality experiences for gaming."
Wang's response seems typical of someone trying to keep a bridge from burning. HTC is working with Valve on developing the Vive headset and nothing more. Now, we can't deny that it would be more awesome to experience Half-Life through a VR headset than, say, DOTA, but we will take what we can get.
