Warner Bros, the company backing the Ready Player One film has partnered with Vive creators HTC for virtual reality content accompanying the 2018 film.
The movie, directed by Steven Spielberg, adapts Ernest Cline's original book. Cline also co-wrote the screenplay of the film. The film/book involves a mystery surrounding the creator of a virtual world with a very out-of-body experience, which could play really well with actual virtual reality.
Multiple pieces of VR content are promised, though details are currently slim. They will be made available through HTC's Viveport portal.
Content for both "high-end PC-based VR systems" (AKA Vive) and "mobile solutions" have been confirmed. Warner Pictures President of worldwide marketing Blair Rich says:
“The virtual reality world within Ready Player One is extremely advanced, sophisticated and engaging, and with Vive, we chose the best system to represent the future of VR,”
“Vive is the perfect partner to bring that to life and also has the broadest reach to global markets for the use of VR in home, mobile and offline channels. We’re delighted that HTC Vive will be partnering with Ready Player One and very excited to work with them leading up the movie’s release in Spring 2018.”
The HTC Vive is the top performing VR headset in the market, although it's price tag bars it from being the most financially successful quite yet. Ready Player One is a highly anticipated movie among VR fans and video game fans alike. Stay tuned to GameZone to hear more as it's uncovered.
