Huge Marvel character could appear in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2

Literally... Huge.

If you're director James Gunn, how do you possibly top having a talking raccoon and tree in your next film? By including a talking planet, obviously.

That's right, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 may introduce one of Marvel's biggest characters toe Marvel Cinematic Universe — literally, enormous.

***Possible spoilers for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 may follow***

According to Geek.com, Ego, the Living Planet, could appear in the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy sequel. For those unfamiliar, Ego is a sentient planet brought to life by The Stranger. Complete with a face and beard, Ego has quite the history with other Marvel characters, but probably has the strongest ties with Thor.

As Geek.com justifies, it makes less sense for the Marvel Cinematic Universe to put him in Thor: Ragnarok, as that series mostly "centers around the issues of Asgard and the death and rebirth cycle that is "Ragnarok." The sentient planet does, however, seem like a perfect fit for a universe in which a talking raccoon and talking tree both exist.

Ego does have ties with Guardians of the Galaxy, having once hired Rocket Raccoon to exterminate an infestation of space lice he was infected with. As Geek.com also notes, Thanos, who appeared in the first Guardians film, once attempted to take over Ego. And in the comics, Ego's "brother" Alter-Ego, another planet created by The Stranger, is held by The Collector, played by Benicio del Toro, who is also returning in Guardians 2 according to IMDB. Ego has also appeared in the Guardians of the Galaxy television series.

So the ties are there. As for what sort of role Ego will have in the film, well, that remains a mystery and will likely remain so until either more rumors or the film releases. Director James Gunn promised last year he would no longer comment on rumors or speculation regarding his upcoming film.

Guardians of the Galaxy is scheduled to debut on May 5, 2017.
