Hulu getting streaming rights to more than 50 Disney movies

Emperor’s New Groove, Muppet Treasure Island, and more on the way

Hulu is inking a major multi-year streaming deal with Walt Disney Studios, nabbing exclusive rights to stream a collection of hit movies from Disney’s library of films.

Hulu now becomes the exclusive streaming service for Disney films like The Nightmare Before Christmas, Mulan, Pocahontas, Hercules, Sister Act, and Air Bud.

The agreement also makes more than 50 popular titles available to stream on Hulu for the first time including Con Air, Step Up, Gone in 60 Seconds, Pearl Harbor, Romy and Michele's High School Reunion, The Mighty Ducks, and other Disney blockbusters like Lilo & Stitch, Tarzan, The Emperor's New Groove, Muppet Treasure Island, and The Princess and the Frog. These films will be made available on the site over the coming months.

It’s an interesting deal for Hulu. Earlier this year, Netflix reached a similar agreement with the house of mouse, announcing that from September 2016 onwards, Netflix would become the exclusive U.S. pay TV home of the latest films from Disney, Marvel, Lucasfilm, and Pixar.

Netflix is essentially getting all of the newer Disney films (Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Captain America: Civil War), while the Hulu deal gets older Disney films.

So if you want to access the entire Disney library, you’ll need both services.
