Humble Bundle has been bought by IGN, but it will remain business as usual

Earlier today, mega games media outlet, IGN announced the acquisition of Humble Bundle, the digital games distribution platform that doubles as a charity donation site. Humble Bundle began all the way back in 2010 from a simple bundle of indie games that buyers could choose to put forth however much they wanted to. The platform has since grown to incorporate Game Publishing, a monthly subscription service, and even pays indie developers to make games for said subscription.

To this day, Humble Bundle has managed to raise over $100 million for charity, though many fans appear skeptical that the store will do things in the same way. Humble co-founder John Graham and IGN executive VP Mitch Galbraith told Gamasutra (who first broke the news) that IGN would not alter any of the methods in which Humble Bundle conducts its business.

"If it's not broken, don't fix it," Galbraith said. "The idea is just to feed them with the resources they need to keep doing what they're doing."

Galbraith also revealed that the deal to acquire Humble Bundle has been in the works for about a year and John Graham re-iterated that nothing will change despite the acquisition.

"We want to stick to the fundamentals in the short term. We don't want to disrupt anything we're doing right already. Because of the shared vision and overlap of our customer bases, there’s going to be a lot of opportunities."

So long as things remain the same, it's hard to fault either side for committing to the deal.
