Rare has announced that the retro-inspired co-op action-adventure Battletoads is going to launch on August 20th for Xbox One and PC via Steam & Microsoft Store. Check out the new trailer here!
Zitz, Rash, and Pimple are back baby! The legendary souped-up amphibians from the heydays of beat ’em up action are once again bringing fast-paced and over-the-top brawling goodness into the homes of gamers.
The tenacity and split-second reflexes required to beat the original Battletoads has given it a fearsome reputation among fans. Dlala’s new approach focuses on maintaining this mayhem while ensuring you have enough options to play at your own pace. That includes bringing in some buddies for couch co-op, which allows up to three players to drop in and out at will, along with difficulty settings designed to suit everyone from Tadpole to Battletoad. Just like before, you’ll be faced with hugely varied challenges as you play, including new vehicle sections and even some puzzle-solving this time around!
While the Battletoads franchise has for the longest time been all but dead, the original developer of the IP, Rare, has taken it upon themselves to revive the toads with attitude. Once again, a mix of game genres is here from straight-up 2D brawling to faux-3D racing set-pieces. It’s all here, bigger than ever before. And with co-op support for up to three players, it’s one to look out for social gamers.
Rare is experiencing a very welcome surge in popularity after staying under the radar for the longest time. Starting with the awesome game compilation Rare Replay for the Xbox One, Rare has clearly found its way back in a creative groove that culminated with the mega-hit Sea of Thieves. Good tidings not only Battletoads but for the studio’s future project altogether.
