Fans of the classic anime and manga series, Ghost in the Shell, might be following along the casting which could be a little disappointing for some, but just recently there has been some good news to share.
Japan's
Cinema Today (via
twitchfilm) are reporting that the iconic director and performer, Kitano Takeshi, will be joining the cast of the live-action take of the series. Takeshi is reportedly going to play as the Section 9 chief Arakami Daisuke, while also serving as the frist Asian casting for the show.
A couple of weeks ago we also got the official announcement of who will
serve as the main villain, The Laughing Man. According to
The Hollywood Reporter, Michael Pitt, best known for his roles in Boardwalk Empire, as well as Hannibal and the film Seven Psychopaths, will appear in the film as the main villain. It's being reported that Pitt will be depicting the Laughing Man.
The Laughing Man villain isn't actually from the proper Ghost in the Shell series but is from the spin-off series, Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex.
Lastly, don’t confuse the Ghost in the Shell live action film with the new Ghost in the Shell
3rd anime movie. All this Ghost in the Shell can get confusing, both sound exciting, though!
