These days, you can’t just have one game if you’re a developer. No, nowadays, if you make a game, you need to make a sequel, and maybe a spin-off or two. Of course, this can only happen if your game sells. id Software understands this, and it would like nothing more than for Rage to become a long-running IP.
“You need to make a franchise,” said id Software Creative Director Tim Willits in an interview with GamesIndustry.biz. “Especially for us. We’re doing everything we can to turn Rage into a franchise. Please let it sell so we can make another one.”
According to Willits, id has planned from the very beginning to make Rage a multi-title franchise. The company isn’t at all opposed to making mobile and social games based around the series, and it would definitely like to develop a Rage 2 somewhere along the road. “From a business standpoint, making a part two is always smart,” said the creative director.
It’s good to know that id has plans for the future regarding Rage. If the company is looking that far ahead, it’s possible that we may have a winner on our hands when Rage launches this October. Here’s hoping the company does move forward with the series. But first, let’s all look forward to the first Rage in the meantime.
