In one week Halo 5: Guardians players spent over $500K in microtransactions

Halo 5: Guardians released just over a week ago and in that time it has become one of the fastest-selling Xbox exclusive games to date. The game brought in around $400 million a week after launch, showing that plenty of people were still interested in experiencing the franchise.

With over 21 million hours worth of gameplay across the globe, you can expect that a good amount of players have tested out the multiplayer feature – and with it the microtransactions. Whether you argue against microtransactions, for microtransactions or simply don't care about them, one thing is clear… people will spend money on them… Instead of, you know, playing the game and earning the points.

Over $500,000 has been spent in Halo 5 on purchasing REQ Packs. Each pack is anywhere from $1.99, to $24.99 and contains weapon calls, armor mods, vehicles or power boosts. The money procured by REQ pack purchases has been added to the Halo World Championship prize pool, bringing the total prize to $1.5 million.
