Phobia Game Studio is celebrating today’s launch of Carrion. The self-titled reverse-horror game puts the player in control of a terrifying monster on a rampage mission to grow larger and eradicate any humans on its path. Check out the launch trailer here!
Ever watched the Aliens movies or The Thing and thought to yourself ‘I’m rooting for the monster!’? No, well then you are pretty sane still but if there ever was a little glimmer in the back of your heads how awesome these merciless and brutal monsters are, now you can become one.
CARRION is a reverse horror game in which you assume the role of an amorphous creature of unknown origin. Stalk and consume those that imprisoned you to spread fear and panic throughout the facility. Grow and evolve as you tear down this prison and acquire more and more devastating abilities on the path to retribution.
In Carrion, the player isn’t hunting an alien blob-like monster, he is it. Consuming humans, killing soldiers, and wreaking havoc throughout your path is the name of the game here. And a glorious high-detail pixel art aesthetic with satisfyingly brutal gore system tops the ingenious take on the action-horror genre.
But there is much more to Carrion than just subverting your expectations about what a horror game can be. While stalking unassuming scientists and tearing their limbs apart is a fun power fantasy, you need to look out for weaponized mechs, lasers, and other hazards that can quickly end your journey. The perfect strategy and choice of weapons are key. While the launch trailer released is pretty cool at setting the tone, make sure to watch this gameplay trailer to see the game in action.
Carrion launches today for PC, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox One and can be purchased for $19.99.
