Earlier this month, Steven Spielberg teased that he'd 'probably' direct another Indiana Jones with Harrison Ford reprising his iconic role as Dr. Jones. Since we haven't heard much about the continuation of the series yet, someone thought to ask and it raised more questions than we had before.
Producer Frank Marshall revealed that Disney wouldn't allow someone else to pick up the torch and run as Dr. Jones – it's either Harrison Ford or no one.
There are a lot of rumors. We haven’t even sat down to talk about Indy yet… at some point we’ll sit down. But there’s a bunch of people who could probably take the baton," said Marshall speaking with Total Film (via Den of Geek). "[But we are] not doing the Bond thing where we’re going to call somebody else Indiana Jones… we have to figure this out."
That's right, Marshall just said there are actors out there that could play the role, but they wouldn't continue the series with someone else playing Ford's role. That brings up the question, can there be an Indiana Jones movie… Without Indiana Jones? If so, what's the point of carrying on the name? Wouldn't it be better to start a new series?
Let's be honest here, with Harrison Ford getting up there in age… he might not make the most believable (or relatable) adventurer.
While I love Shia Labeouf (for a number of reasons that don't have to do with acting), he simply cannot carry on the Jones lineage. Chris Pratt – the man everyone seems to love – would be a much better fit.
