Infiltrate a 1970s cult in The Church In The Darkness come August 2nd

Ever wanted to join a fanatical cult but were scared of the extremely dangerous real-life connotations? Fear not, The Church in the Darkness aims to offer exactly that experience in the safe confines of your home. The cult-infiltrator will come out for PC, PS4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch on August 2nd. Watch the launch trailer here!

The aptly named developer Paranoid Productions has announced the release date for their top-down adventure game with horror elements on their official Tumblr page. After more than three years after being announced, only a bit more than a week remains until gamers can infiltrate a religious cult to uncover the dark secrets behind a peaceful veneer.

What ending will you get? Will you get Alex out, whether he wants to go with you or not? Will you confront the cult leaders? Will you join the cult?

Unlock every ending for each scenario by trying different play styles or making different choices.

Multiple ways to play: Avoid detection completely, taking out guards and civilians non-lethally, or kill anyone who gets in your way.

Interview characters from Freedom Town and search for clues. Documents and letters scattered around camp will hint at the true nature of the commune.

Fully voiced game, starring Ellen McLain (best known as GLaDOS in Portal) and John Patrick Lowrie (the Sniper from Team Fortress 2) as the cult leaders, Rebecca and Isaac Walker.

Set in the 1970s, The Church in the Darkness puts players in the shoes of Vic, an ex-law enforcement officer. As an undercover agent, Vic joins the Collective Justice Mission. A cult started and led by the charismatic Isaac and Rebecca Walker, located in the remote jungles of South America. An interesting mechanic is that there are multiple game endings according to the players choices and actions, which encourage multiple playthroughs to uncover all secrets.
