Infinity Blade free for Valentine’s Day (until Feb. 21)

Infinity Blade is Apple's App of the Week, and Chair Entertainment is making it free from now until Feb. 21 in honor of Valentine's Day.

Chair tweeted out a Valentine's Day card and announced the markdown in the App Store. It's regularly priced at $5.99 and works with iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad.

The card pictured here shows the Valentine's Day Holiday Helm, which players can equip after downloading the game.

"Infinity Blade remains one of the most popular games in the App Store, and this is a great opportunity to invite new gamers into the Infinity Blade universe," said Chair creative director Donald Mustard.

That's some good news in the wake of bad news. Epic Games, which owns Chair, recently confirmed that the next entry in the series, Infinity Blade: Dungeons, has been put on hold.

Epic opened a whole new subsidiary, Impossible Studios, for development of the game. It hired former employees of the defunct Big Huge Games when 38 Studios, its parent company, folded to bankruptcy last year.

The reason given for the closure, which came before Impossible was even able to release one game, was that "ultimately it wasn’t working out for Epic."

At the time of its debut, Infinity Blade became the fastest-grossing app on the App Store.
