Infinity Blade more profitable than Gears of War, says Epic

According to Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney, the Infinity Blade series has brought in more money than the Gears of War franchise.

Sweeney gave a keynote presentation at the Game Developers Conference in Taipei today and iterated to Gamasutra the value of mobile game investments.

"The most profitable game we've ever made, in terms of man years invested versus revenue, is actually Infinity Blade," he said. "It's more profitable than Gears of War."

The CEO believes that future growth in the industry will result from the free-to-play model, and says that Epic has been "very, very surprised to see how fast smartphone and tablet devices are improving."

"Nowadays the high end of the game business is in these console game," he said. "Activision invests almost $100 million per year in Call of Duty."
