Insomniac Games and Gamestop have announced that Song of the Deep will be released on PC along with Xbox One and PS4 July 12th. It will be the first game to be released under Gamestop's new publishing deal and available both physically and digitally.
Since the game is published by Gamestop, you will only be able to get the physical disc at their stores. Song of the Deep is a metroidvania-style action-adventure game following a young girl named Merryn's quest into the unknown to find her missing father. Combining discovery, skill, and suspense with an unforgettable narrative, this underwater journey will challenge players to explore, experiment, and skillfully navigate a vast ocean landscape. Merryn builds a submarine and takes her journey underwater in a quest to locate her father's missing ship. Once she embarks, she finds out that the stories her father told her about life underneath the ocean weren't just stories, but true happenings. Merryn must avoid dangerous enemies, manipulate puzzles and more to save her father.
Gamestop also announced earlier that they have signed three additional developers to publishing deals as well. As they noted, the company will not be involved in the development of games, but focus on allowing said developers more exposure with retail presence, especially for smaller studios.
Song of the Deep features pretty remarkable visuals as you can see from the trailer above. It's a 2D adventure game with 3D background images, so the contrast truly makes the game's art stand out. Be sure to check out the trailer and let us know what you think
