Over the weekend, sales for the new iPhone 5 have topped five million. These impressive sales numbers are just three days after its September 21st launch.
Given the early pre-order indications, it was widely expected that the iPhone 5 would be extremely popular among consumers. Just hours after the iPhone 5 went on sale, shipping dates were delayed until October. Apple maintains that the "majority" of pre-orders have been shipped to customers, but did say that many are still scheduled to ship in October.
“Demand for iPhone 5 has been incredible and we are working hard to get an iPhone 5 into the hands of every customer who wants one as quickly as possible,” said Apple’s CEO Tim Cook. “While we have sold out of our initial supply, stores continue to receive iPhone 5 shipments regularly and customers can continue to order online and receive an estimated delivery date. We appreciate everyone’s patience and are working hard to build enough iPhone 5s for everyone.”
The iPhone 5 is currently available in the US, Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, Singapore and the UK. It will arrive in 22 more countries on September 28 and more than 100 countries by the end of the year.
The new iPhone five comes in either white and silver or black and slate. It is the thinnest and lightest iPhone ever and features a completely redesigned 4-inch Retina display. You can order it now from Apple's Online Store.
